Just one week...

Hi Everyone,
Sorry, been out of the office for just one week and how the world has changed! Actually, been a bit all over the place. Been a little hooked on a series I was introduced to called 'Breaking Bad'. Finding quiet intriguing.

In other news....been a little slow these days on the art front got a lot going on in other area's so sorry about that.
Been catching up on this IMF situation too, as its all relevant to my work. What a sticky situation the government are in.......idiots. Really, it didn't need to be this bad. There is really no avoiding the conversation at the moment. But what I find most amusing is the fact that this was inevitable and also, isn't this the whole reason why Ireland is involved in the EU in the first place?? It think the general public really don't understand what is happening at the moment and what they have contributed to the mess, after all its easy point a finger in hind sight. As well, very little is being done in the way of curing the ignorant.
In saying this though, the cowboys in the Dail are by no means innocent. Total reform is needed there I think, particularly if this country of ours is not to look like an international laughing stock again. Especially the clown at the helm.....

Night Time Lights

I took part in a projection project in Limerick City on Saturday night. The purpose was to engage with the situation of vacant premises within the city, as a result of the unfavourable economic climate. It was organised and curated by Gillian Snowdon and a looped slide show of artists work was projected for a number hours on O'Connell street and Patrick street. A good number of artists were on show including my peers and influences, Des MacMahon and Stacey Grant pictured below in images 3 & 4.

Quite frankly, I don't think there should be as many vacant premises in the city centre. The Council really aren't doing enough to encourage businesses to occupy and compete in the district. In my opinion the city needs lower rates or give rate free periods and practice better planning in order to survive and thrieve. Bam.

Me getting the better of myself

Sometimes, I really am lucky to have such good friends to engage my degree of cynicism. Him, who shall be known as newstalker, posed to me that questioning within social culture can give rise to tolorance. My ability to process given situations now feels a little vunerable, but refreshing all the same. Here is what was the by product of said discussion......

State of the nation

Day light saving has come and gone, but the days of the sovereign state are only getting darker, according to every news bulletin, news paper and radio broadcast. I'm beginning to wonder have I bitten off more than I can chew returning home. Got this in an email today and made me smile a little, albeit nervously.....
Listening to the news today I really can't help but wonder is it really that bad. I'm beginning to think so, particularly when the so called 'government' can't stop bickering, hissing and spitting at each other. Schoolboys. What keeps coming up in all these discussions is the 'fact' that a given family now has to choose between paying bills and eating. This all seems a little surreal. Although it seems that we've all experienced this before. When I say 'we' and 'experience', I mean the nation and our forefathers. The question one has to ask, what have we left to show for it all?

Takashi Murakami

Here is a guy I've been looking at a little more closely of late, making some good art and engaging with post war Japanese identity.......
